Bob Bain, who died, aged 81, just short of four years ago, had a lifelong passion for theatre – Glasgow’s fabled Empire Theatre was a big part of this - and he was the tireless secretary of the Scottish Hall and Variety Theatre Society.

Other famous animals in Glasgow have been visitors rather than residents and at the time none was more famous than Trigger the horse and his human companion Roy Rogers, who came to Glasgow in 1954 for an appearance at the Empire Theatre.

The former Empire Theatre, which later became the ABC cinema, has already been partially demolished and now will be fully razed to the ground and replaced with 22 flats in Alexandra Street.
